2025 Summer - Friday Night Lights - Summer SPEED LAX

Welcome

Friday Night Lights - Summer SPEED LAX is available to all Northeast Florida Boys & Girls.  The program is designed for CO-ED Boys & Girls play.  SPEED LAX rules apply and only eye protective goggles are required for all players (googles provided).  All North Florida Youth Lacrosse League & North East Florida Girls Youth Lacrosse League programs are invited to participate.

SPEED LAX

SPEED lacrosse is an innovative and dynamic discipline of lacrosse that showcases fast-paced and high-scoring gameplay. As a variant of the traditional format, it features 3-6 players on each team, creating an exciting and intense experience for both players and spectators.

  • Learn & Play: 30 minute Skill Development session, followed by 30 minute SPEED LAX Game

  • Fast-Paced Play: Game is designed to be a high-energy, non-stop game, with players constantly moving and touching the ball.

  • Emphasis on Fundamentals: Focuses on developing fundamental lacrosse skills, such as cradling, passing, catching, dodging, shooting, and defending.

  • Limited Equipment Required: Players only need a standard lacrosse stick and mouthguard. Protective eye goggles will be provided. NO LONG POLES

  • CO-ED Scrimmage Format: Prior to the game, during the Skill Development sessions each week, players will be divided evenly by skill level onto CO-ED (mixed-gender) teams.

  • No Specialized Positions: Unlike traditional lacrosse, SPEED Lacrosse doesn't have specialized positions, meaning all players are involved in ball possession.

  • Focus on Finesse over Physicality: SPEED LAX emphasizes finesse and skill over physicality, making it a great option for new beginning players.

  • SPEED Format: Game is played with three to six players on the field at a time, with substitutions allowed.

  • BOX Rink: played in the BOX Lacrosse Rink, fast paced continuous action with the contained ball never leaving play.

  • 10 x 1/2 Formula: SPEED LAX aims to give players 10 times more opportunities to practice fundamental skills in half the time compared to traditional lacrosse.
